The Roadi RDT45 is an easy-to-use tool for novice and light-to-moderate do-it-yourselfers who need an inexpensive diagnostic tool for Volkswagen and Audi vehicles sold worldwide since 1990. The RDT45 easily and quickly determines the cause of the "check engine" coming on and is able turn it off without going to the dealer and erase codes, saving time diagnosing problems and money in repair costs. It works on four main systems: engine, transmission, airbag and ABS. It also is helpful in checking for potential problems prior to purchasing a car.

Beginning in the 1980s new vehicles began to be wired with a variety ofcomputerized diagnostic systems designed to improve efficiencies, simplifytroubleshooting and minimize the need for repairs. These systems produceindicators known as diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) internally, usually indicatingsomething out of the ordinary by illuminating the "check engine"/malfunctionindicator light (MIL) on the dashboard of your car. In the 1990s these systems,codes and the hardware connectors used to access them were standardizedin North America as OBD (onboard diagnostics) and later OBD-II. Europe usesthe equivalent EOBD, but Volkswagen and Audi vehicles also use another diagnosticstandard system, VAG. Unofficially this acronym can be taken to stand for"Volkswagen Audi Group."
